A Week in Paris - The Catacombs

One of the truly unique things is Paris is its Catacombs. Built to shore up the foundations of the city when former quarries began to collapse with the weight of the city above. Later, the city began to use it to inter millions of Parisians in the 18th and 19th centuries. The catacombs underpin a huge portion of the city while only about 1 kilometer is open to the public, giving you a glimpse into this world.
